I am excited to say that I am thoroughly enjoying my crossover into the Micro FourThirds world of photography. I have new camera bodies, lenses, new studio lights and flash gear to go with them. But most recently I have tried out the SleekLens Perfect Portrait Collection of actions for PS. I was a little skeptical at first glance, as I have hundreds of hours into learning and growing with PS for over 25 years. I truly wondered if this new set of actions would really add anything to what I already had a pretty good handle on.

It did not take long to see what I would gain was time. Time. Yes, let me say it one more time... TIME. The most precious, glorious and elusive of all intangible things. This set of actions works systematically with your workflow and pops out wonderous and fluid beauty very quickly. Best of all, it can be worked and reworked as needed, all at the click of an undo. Lights, darks and amounts of tempering can be upgraded or faded at the slide of a bar. Marvelous and simple. While there are helpful tutorial videos available, I found that it was easiest to learn via just playing around. Very fun. Check them out for yourself!

Welcome to the Ballroom... https://www.froglegsphoto.com/blog/2013/6/ballroom-dance ABC_2091_a_web

I have photographed my little sister since I was 10 years old. When she was 3, and flip-flopped across the stage in back walkovers for her first gymnastics/dance performance, I was there with my new camera, a little box 126 with a flash cube. When she was 6, I had acquired a new disc camera just in time to capture her as a flower girl in our oldest brother's wedding.  At age 11 she competed in a youth beauty pageant. Shortly after the pageant she wore the pageant dress in our older sister's wedding as flower girl and again, I had a new camera. My father had given me the choice of a decent new camera at the age of 14 or a car when I was 16. One of the biggest and best decisions of my life. My new Minolta XD11 in hand, my little model and I headed out to the backyard to practice before the big wedding. Fast forward to high school and captain of the dance team and then again to her own graduation photos.

College came for both of us, and she was performing for the UW Green Bay Fighting Phoenix as captain of the UWGB dance team. The hardest wedding I ever photographed was hers, as both my older sister and I were matrons of honor in the wedding. My poor husband on that day, had charge over our two young boys who were wreaking havoc everywhere.

My photography of her morphed to include her family, as it began to grow. First came her Goldens; Simba & Nala. Then one day she had a little boy followed shortly by little girl and finally a parrot. A couple of new dogs and lots of family photos later, she has gone back to her youth and has begun to dance again.

Recently I was able to photograph her on the Ballroom Dance floor as she competed in the Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Rhumba, Cha-Cha, Swing, Mambo, Bolero, and Bolero Contemporary. As I watched her gracefully pour herself from a sitting position off of her partner's shoulder, up-side-down in to a back walkover in her solo performance, I was reminded of that little girl flip-flopping across the stage. If you have a minute, take the time to watch pure grace in motion as my little sister and many others swirl across the ballroom floor to create magic and romance. It does the heart good. Enjoy both the videos and stills that can be found in the featured photos.

A Word About Frogs... https://www.froglegsphoto.com/blog/2013/6/a-word-about-frogs Frogs are such a wonderful and important part of our eco-system that when researchers need to check the quality of life in a certain area, the first thing they will check is the frog population.  The unique thing about frogs is that they live both on land and in the water, therefore, a healthy frog population will indicate a healthy eco-system. Mutant frogs and a weak population will indicate toxins and other problems that will eventually affect all of us.

Life is good when we can work in harmony with the beauty around us, both the people and the earth. Natural light can create some of the most dramatic effects in photography and do it without a light bulb. Harnessing that is even better than using compact fluorescent.

FCCLA Regional Competition held March 9th At G-E-T High School https://www.froglegsphoto.com/blog/2013/3/fccla-regional-competition-held-march-9th-at-g-e-t-high-school Outside it was a cold, drizzly March day, but inside the G-E-T High School, the FCCLA (Family, Careers & Community Leaders of America) competition was cooking! Boys and girls alike, from 6-12th grade, were quite literally cooking... and baking, and decorating, and garnishing. They were also preparing, demonstrating and presenting everything from poster board layouts about the environment to dresses made from re-purposed neck ties. Fourteen different school districts were represented making for an exciting day of competition. Enjoy a few of the fun photos from the day here, but check out the rest under the Featured Photos section!
